20 Suggestions for Sustainable Singapore
The Inter-Ministerial Committee on Sustainable Development (IMCSD) recently announced Singapore’s vision and initiatives for sustainable development, and is seeking public feedback and suggestions. The IMCSD is studying ways to be more sustainable in the way we Work, Commute, Live and Play.

In response to the call for green ideas, Green Future Solutions came up with 20 suggestions that would help Singapore to be more sustainable. The 20 suggestions include:
Reduce Energy and Carbon Emissions
1. Promote SEE Energy Management for the Industry and Building Sector
2. Encourage Building Owners to Reduce Lightings at Night
3. Work Towards a Four National Switches Energy Strategy
4. Set Mandatory Energy Efficiency and Renewable Portfolio Standards
Redesign, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Waste
5. Encourage Educational and Practical Opportunities on Redesign
6. Set Targets for Reducing Packaging
7. Introduce an Incentive Scheme for BYOB
8. Introduce a National Waste Reuse Database
9. Provide a National Food Matching Service
10. Set up Community Recycling Centers with Comprehensive Waste Collection
Reduce Water Demand and Pollution
11. Encourage Rainwater Harvesting for Non-Potable Usage
12. Introduce Data Collection for Marine Waste
Sustainable Transportation
13. Include Carsharing and Bikesharing in the Public Transportation System
14. Set Clear Guidelines to Promote Cleaner Cars
Sustainable Food, Materials and Products
15. Encourage Urban Agriculture
16. Promote Local or Ecolabelled Food, Materials and Products
Protecting Natural Habitats and Biodiversity
17. Establish Mandatory Environmental Impact Assessments and Environmental Reviews
18. Strengthen the Protection of Marine Habitats and Biodiversity
Greener Companies and Businesses
19. Introduce Green Certification for SMEs
20. Develop More Green Resources for Companies
