Two local firms on list of “Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations” [News]

Two Singapore-based companies have been recognised on the list of the “Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations” by Corporate Knights Inc., a Canadian research company focused on corporate sustainability.

Real estate developers City Developments and CapitaLand are ranked 62nd and 87th respectively.

The number one ranked company for 2012 is Danish drugmaker, Novo Nordisk.

The “Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations” list includes companies from 22 countries and encompasses all sectors of the economy.

The companies are assessed in their performance in managing environmental, corporate governance and social issues.

Green design for Market Street tower [News]

A 40-storey office building, designed by an award-winning architect, will soon take the place of one of the most popular carparks in the middle of the central business district (CBD).

The Market Street carpark will make way for the $1.4 billion Market Street office building which will add 720,000 sq ft of prime office space to the CDB.

Yesterday the three firms involved in the project, CapitaLand, CapitaCommercial Trust and Japan’s Mitsubishi Estate Asia, unveiled their plans for the building and said Japanese architect Toyo Ito is the designer for the new office tower. Read more

CapitaLand Recognised as Corporate Sustainability Leader by International Benchmarks

The Group is a component of the newly-launched Dow Jones Sustainability Asia Pacific Index, which comprises Asia Pacific’s leading companies in terms of sustainability. The Dow Jones Sustainability Asia Pacific Index captures the top 20% of the largest 600 companies in Asia Pacific based on long-term economic, environmental and social criteria.

Separately, the Group has also been included in Sustainability Yearbook 2009, one of the world’s most comprehensive publications on corporate sustainability. Over 100 CapitaLand Properties Participating in Earth Hour 2009

Singapore, 17 March 2009 – A total of 106 CapitaLand properties in Singapore, Australia, China, Malaysia and Vietnam will be participating in Earth Hour on Saturday 28 March 2009. This is the second year running that CapitaLand is supporting this global campaign to fight global warming and the first year that CapitaLand’s overseas properties are joining the campaign.

At 8.30pm on 28 March 2009, CapitaLand’s offices, retail malls and serviced
residences in these five countries will mark Earth Hour by turning off their façade lights for one hour. However, emergency lighting and security systems will function normally to ensure that safety and security are not compromised. Read more

CapitaLand Reduces Electricity and Water Consumption

Singapore, 14 January 2009 – CapitaLand’s Group-wide initiatives to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle have paid off. In the first 11 months of 2008, the Group reduced electricity and water consumption in 23 retail malls, office buildings and serviced residences in Singapore by 4% and 5% respectively compared to the same period in 2007, after adjustments for human traffic and occupancy rate. This is equivalent to about S$1.5 million based on current utility costs. The electricity saved can power 12,500 five-room HDB flats for one month while the water saved can fill 24 Olympic-sized swimming pools. Read more
