Keeping the lights out past 60 minutes [News]

At 8.30 PM today, do not be alarmed if you find yourself in the dark, as lights around the world will be switched off for 60 minutes in a global display of climate action known as Earth Hour.
Earth Hour kicked off in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, before becoming a global sustainability movement the next year. Singapore, along with more than 80 other countries, joined the green initiative in 2009.
This year’s event sees a 15 to 20 per cent increase in business supporters, up from 500 last year. Those that participated previously are also stepping up their efforts this year. Read more
Go beyond 60 minutes for next week’s Earth Hour [News]

The Earth Hour logo is familiar to many – that bold six and zero imprinted with the world map.
But the logo for the yearly event in which people switch off the lights for 60 minutes in a symbolic show of environmental awareness has taken on a plus sign this year to become ’60+’. In other words, everyone is being invited to go ‘beyond the hour’.
A slew of new initiatives and events has been lined up for Earth Hour this year, to be observed next Saturday. For starters, the movement has launched a global online platform and an iPhone application, along with a campaign to encourage Singaporeans to become more energy efficient. Read more
Over 100 CapitaLand Properties Participating in Earth Hour 2009

Singapore, 17 March 2009 – A total of 106 CapitaLand properties in Singapore, Australia, China, Malaysia and Vietnam will be participating in Earth Hour on Saturday 28 March 2009. This is the second year running that CapitaLand is supporting this global campaign to fight global warming and the first year that CapitaLand’s overseas properties are joining the campaign.
At 8.30pm on 28 March 2009, CapitaLand’s offices, retail malls and serviced
residences in these five countries will mark Earth Hour by turning off their façade lights for one hour. However, emergency lighting and security systems will function normally to ensure that safety and security are not compromised. Read more
